Growing up in Jakarta, Indonesia, Beata came to study in Boston, Massachusetts in 1985. After college, she briefly worked as an editorial photographer in Jakarta, before moving back to the US in 1993.
Currently based in Los Angeles, she spends summers in Indonesia, co-leading a Bali-based photography workshop.
